Toccatina Americana
Chris Lowry

A decidedly loose contemporary take on a seventeenth-century art form, Toccatina Americana is an eclectic mishmash of fiddle flourishes, quasi-improvisational cadenzas, and Neo-Baroque counterpoint. Short, fleeting, fragmented, and a bit frenzied, this piece contrasts jagged rhythms and jaunting syncopations with long ornamented lines and open perfect intervals.

This piece won first prize in the 2019 “…and friends” Ensemble’s Call for Scores.
